Achilles Tendinitis

Overview
Achilles tendinitis is inflammation of the Achilles tendon at the back of the ankle. It is common in athletes and active individuals.

Causes

  • Overuse from sports or training

  • Poor footwear without support

  • Tight calf muscles

Risk Factors

  • Runners

  • Athletes

  • Middle-aged men

Symptoms

  • Heel or tendon pain

  • Stiffness after activity

  • Swelling in the tendon area

Complications

  • Chronic pain

  • Risk of tendon rupture

Diagnosis

  • Clinical palpation

  • Ultrasound or MRI

Prevention & Home Care

  • Proper warm-up before exercise

  • Stretching calf muscles

  • Wearing supportive shoes

Management
Management of Achilles tendinitis involves rest, physiotherapy, and calf stretching. Custom-made orthotic insoles correct foot mechanics, reduce tendon strain, and improve stability during walking or sports. Severe cases or ruptures may require surgery.
